Different strategic questions require different depths of foresight

Futures Land engagements range from focused executive workshops and commissioned research to organisation-specific strategic modelling and comprehensive Preferred Future programmes.

They draw upon the same underlying foresight system, while differing in the breadth of research, degree of organisation-specific analysis, number of future conditions examined and level of strategic implementation required.

Explore an emerging future

Structured foresight for an issue that requires attention.

A leadership team may begin by exploring an emerging issue through a report or workshop, investigate one consequential decision through a Question to the Future, build a Company Digital Twin for repeated strategic use, or undertake the complete Preferred Future Program when the organisation needs a long-term adaptive strategy.

Reports, Strategy Stress Tests and workshops are distinct entry points for leadership teams seeking a stronger basis for understanding, discussion and decision.

Reports

Futures Land reports provide concentrated research and foresight on subjects with significant long-term strategic implications. They combine evidence about current change with interpretation of emerging possibilities and the questions those developments create for decision-makers.

Published reports provide access to completed Futures Land research on defined subjects and can be ordered directly by invoice. Commissioned reports are developed around a specific research requirement and scoped individually.

Strategy Stress Test

The Strategy Stress Test examines a company’s current strategy across materially different future conditions, helping leadership see where major choices remain resilient, where they depend upon particular assumptions, and where flexibility or earlier preparation may have strategic value.

Workshops

Futures Land workshops bring structured foresight directly into leadership and strategy conversations. They are designed around a defined strategic purpose and can be used to explore an emerging field, examine assumptions, develop a Preferred Future, or stress-test an important decision against materially different future conditions.

Research and preparation can be added where the subject requires a stronger evidence base before the workshop begins.

Preferred Future Program

The Preferred Future Program is the most comprehensive Futures Land engagement.

Typical programme: approximately 12–16 weeks

Over approximately 12–16 weeks, Futures Land works with leadership to develop a rigorous understanding of the organisation’s current position, define the future it intends to create, examine that direction under materially different external conditions and develop an adaptive strategic architecture for moving towards it.

The programme is designed for organisations making consequential long-term choices where direction, uncertainty and strategic flexibility need to be considered together. Its precise scope depends upon the organisation, strategic horizon, complexity of the external environment and the decisions leadership needs the programme to support.

Ongoing Foresight Intelligence. Long-term strategic work gains further value when the assumptions behind it remain under observation. Ongoing Foresight Intelligence extends completed research or strategic engagements through periodic scanning, signal interpretation, assumption reviews and updates to the relevant foresight assets. The precise form is designed around the client's decision horizon, strategic exposure and existing Futures Land work.

Choosing the appropriate engagement

The decision determines the proportionate starting point

The appropriate starting point depends upon the nature of the decision, the amount of uncertainty surrounding it and the depth of organisation-specific analysis required.

A report or workshop may be sufficient when leadership needs stronger understanding of an emerging field or wants to examine a question collectively. A Strategy Stress Test becomes useful when an existing strategy or consequential decision needs to be examined across materially different future conditions. A Question to the Future concentrates the work on one defined strategic issue. A Company Digital Twin provides a reusable model when repeated decisions require a clearer understanding of the organisation itself. The Preferred Future Program brings these dimensions together when leadership needs to connect long-term direction with external uncertainty and adaptive strategy.

For strategic questions that remain exposed to continuing change after the initial engagement, Ongoing Foresight Intelligence can keep relevant developments and assumptions under observation as conditions evolve.
